Artist Jennifer Johnson is captivated by the breathtaking beauty of nature, including the diverse wildlife and stunning landscapes of US national parks. She believes that oil on canvas is the ideal medium to capture the intricate details and vibrant colors of her subjects, bringing them to life in her paintings.

Johnson’s creative process is deeply connected to the natural world; she camps and hikes, immersing herself in the environment and observing the wildlife that inspires her. She uses various techniques to capture the essence of her surroundings, including photography, plein air painting, and on-site sketching. These serve as the foundation for my studio paintings.

Her goal is to convey the vitality and energy of the natural world in her work, from the majestic mountain peaks to the importance of wildlife and the beauty of nature’s colors. Additionally, she incorporates old iconic signs and typography into some of her landscapes, playfully nodding to the local histories.

Ultimately, she hopes to inspire a deeper appreciation and respect for the natural world through her art, encouraging others to explore and protect it for generations to come.

Johnson’s work has been featured in Art and Architecture, Western Art Collector, Outdoor News, Southwest Art, and Cowboys and Indians and is housed at the historic Wort Hotel, Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, Jackson Hole Ski Resort, and Uline Shipping Supplies. Jennifer was inducted into the Russell Skull Society of Artists in 2017.
